Celebrate Our Freedom Card

This is one of the cards I made for my Marine son and his roommates for the 4th of July to thank them for their sacrifice and my freedom.

I used a June new release called COLONIAL CARVINGS from CLEAR DOLLAR STAMPS: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront

I found a new line at my local scrapbooking store called Just Chillin by Making Memories. I love this line and just knew I needed it to make this card and do scrapping of my sons military journey.

I love how the sewing around the embossed stars turned out.

Clean And Simple Challenge #21

Today's Clean And Simple Challenge at Splitcoaststampers is called MAKE IT SPARKLE: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=445327

The challenge is to use glitter, stickles or irredescent ice (or similar product) on your CAS project to make it SPARKLE.

I thought about my stamp sets and I needed a thank you card, so I thought of a sparkly orange from FRUITY FUN by CLEAR DOLLAR STAMPS LLC: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront

I love to combine glitter and dimensional glaze. I love the look. Really sparkly. I stamped the orange, covered with two-way glue and glittered with Dazzling Diamonds. I brushed off the access then used dimensional glaze. Love the look.

Thank you for visiting.

DETAILS: STAMPS: Fruity Fun (Clear Dollar Stamps LLC) PAPER: West Coast Hyper White, Mandarin (The Paper Company) INK: Stazon Jet Black, Stampin Up Only Orange, ACCESSORIES: SU Dazzling Diamonds Glitter, Glossy Accents (Ranger), SU 1 1/4"circle punch, 1/8" circle hole punch, Small corner punch, Mini gold safety pin, Ribbon (from Clear Dollar Stamps)

Clear Dollar Stamps Weekend Color Challenge #25

This weekend sweet Cassie is hosting Clear Dollar Stamps Weekend Color Challenge at Paper Craft Planet: http://www.papercraftplanet.com/group/cleardollarstampsllcweekendcolorchallenge/forum/topics/clear-dollar-stamps-weekend-9

Cassie chose some great colors for us to work with, using some retiring in colors from SU:

Kiwi Kiss

Riding Hood Red

Summer Sun

Chocolate Chip

Neutral: White

I decided to use SASSY SCALLOPS and PEONY from CLEAR DOLLAR STAMPS LLC: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront I am loving this Sassy Scallops set. I love how it works with scallops so I decided to try what I saw Shawne do, use them as backgrounds. So that is exacltly what I did. Although they don't show up great in this photo I chose the flower and small dot.

Originally I used one of each color for the squares and was going to put my flower at an angle over the top. I did not like that look, so I went with this design instead. I love the clear embossed peony for the BG, although it does not show up well in my photo.

Thanks Cassie for a fun challenge. And thank you Shawne too for my inspiration.

Thanks for visiting.

Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday #52

Front of Card

Bottom View of Shadow Box Card.

Mothermark's tea parties go from Tuesday to Tuesday. So technically you can never be late, good thing because it's Thursday and I am just arriving. Visiting the Queen at Winsor Castle and I'm late. I started this card Tuesday evening as I was approaching the end, I added dimensional glaze, and it changed my colors. Oh NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I started over last night and am just now done. I wanted my card to be special for this special tea party Cindy!

I wouldn't miss this one, it is Mothermark's 1 year of Teapot Tuesday Tea Parties and she has blog candy Check it out: http://mothermark.blogspot.com/search/label/Teapot%20Tuesday%20Cards
For my card I took inspiration from the theme of this teapot, since it is from Winsor Castle in England, I made a shadow box card featuring my mode of transportation, a carriage of course. How else would one arrive to a party with the Queen? This adorable carriage is from the set ROSEBUD PRINCESS from CLEAR DOLLAR STAMPS LLC: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront
I saw this paper the other day at my local scrapbooking store and fell in love with the colors and thought it would be perfect for my carriage. So that is what inspired my colors. I wanted it to look rich and regal for royalty of course. This is my first time making a shadow box card, I've been wanting to make one for awhile, and thought this was a perfect way to showcase this lovely carriage. Here is the tutorial I followed for making this shadow box card: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/shadow_box_card/ I used watercolor paper and love its texture. I stamped the carriage five times, one on the card and four on separate watercolor and embossed with clear embossing powder. I cut out and layered to get the dimension I wanted.

I chose the sentiments happily ever after and decided to make a wedding card. When I was working with it, I wanted to make the sentiment flow along the circle window. I got this idea to make these banners like, they seemed to fit the theme and font of the sentiment. So I cut out two more circles from watercolor paper, one the size of the window and one two sizes larger, creating a ring that I stamped the sentiment on. I cut it the length I wanted and cut the v shapes on the ends and use a dauber to distress with Tim Holtz Distress Ink Vintage Photo. I moved it down over the window slightly even with the bottom of the v and popped up with dimensionals. I love how it turned out even though it took forever.

Thank you for visiting.

DETAILS: STAMPS: Rosebud Princess (Clear Dollar Stamps LLC) PAPER: Watercolor, Amborosia/Orange Smoothie (Basic Grey) INK: Stazon Jet Black, Tim Holtz Distress Ink Vintage Photo, Bic Mark-It Markers ACCESSORIES: Dauber, Heat Tool, Clear Embossing Powder, Coluzzle, Mini Gold Brad, Dimensionals, Taki Tape, Basic Grey Opaline Pear Stickers (from Clear Dollar Stamps)

Clean And Simple Challenge #20

This is my card for today's Clean And Simple (CAS# Challenge: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=444135

The challenge is to create a CAS card using the paper piecing technique.

I chose to use a new release this month PEONY from Clear Dollar Stamps LLC: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront

I used Basic Grey Pink Rhinestone stickers (from Clear Dollar Stamps) on the flower but in this photo you cannot see them very well. My layout inspiration comes from Paper Crafts Magazine Dec 06/Jan 07 pg 16. I don't have a collection, I go to the library and check them out. They are fabulous for ideas. I love this layout and sure I will be playing with it. I used it today because I thought it would showcase my paper pieced image well.

I stamped my image multiple times and cut out different parts of it each time and layered it for a more dimensional look, but I did not used dimensionals. I like that the paper piercing I did on the three sides draw attention to the sentiment and even the image because of the way it is facing. Cool, even though my piercing is a little crooked, what can I say it is hand done.

Thank you for visiting.

DETAILS:

STAMPS: Peony (Clear Dollar Stamps LLC)

Inspiration Challenge #185

This is my TAG for today's Inspiration Challenge: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=443837

I chose this pair of shoes for my inspiration: http://www.bugalookids.com/product_p/charlotte.htm

I used two new releases PATCHPAL ELEPHANT, SASSY SCALLOPS from Clear Dollar Stamps LLC: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront

WHAT I DID:

First, I stamped this adorable ellie in chocolate chip and heat embossed him with clear embossing powder.

Second, I paper pierced him following all the lines of the image. I was going for a stitched look, not sure if it looks like that, but I LOVE the effect, anyway.

Third, I used the sassy scallops set (this set has teeny tiny images to use with scallop borders etc, but work great also as BG stamps). I used the same dot that I used on the bottom scallops to fill in the circles on his ears and heat embossed.

I just love how this turned out. I don't always like how things turn out, but I like this. I think I will make a set of these.

Thanks for visiting.

Lovely Lilac (Rainbow Purple) Optional

Neutral: White

Hope you can join us this weekend. Looking forward to seeing what you create. I will choose one card to feature on my blog Monday. (Never an easy choice).

9th Grade Dance

Here he is, Alek, my youngest. Dressed in his tux for tonight's 9th grade dance. Can you believe it. A tux, corsage, transportation vehicle and food afterwards. Sounds like prom doesn't it. But no, this is the tradition for the 9th grade dance. I got a new dress, nylons and shoes. And my 9th grade dance was at my Jr. High school in the cafeteria. This is crazy, but true. Does any one else out there feel my pain?

Here's Alek's date Sierra, a friend that is a girl. She's a few inches taller than Alek and feels like she has to crouch down in the photos so as not to show up Alek. Isn't that sweet.

Here's the group: Austin, Sierra, Alek, Quinn, Hannah and Daulton.

I love it. After we (us Moms) took a few pics, they asked if they could do some goofy pics. I love it. They are dressed up but still kids through and through.

Check out these shoes! Aren't they awesome! Quinn is going to be the most comfortable one in the group dancing tonight for sure.

Clean And Simple Challenge #19

This is my card for Monday's Clean and Simple Challenge at Splitcoaststampers: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=442882

I found these adorable sets to fit the bill PATCHPAL ELEPHANT,PATCHPAL MESSAGES from Clear Dollar Stamps LLC: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront I am just loving your elephant Shawne.

I find myself holding my breath (so to speak) during the card making process. Just hoping it turns out. Very rarely does the end result look anything like what the original idea was in my head. LOL I love how little mistakes or things effect the final result. For example, the angle of the center panel on this card came about because just before I adhered it, it was laying at an angle on my card and I liked that. Hee Hee.

And when I first stamped my elephants and was looking at it, I thought what if I colored in the dots? Of course what if this turned out to be a disaster? Would I have to start over? Well, I plunged forward and ended up liking it, however when I first colored in a couple dots I did it completely and as I went along I found I liked a little white left. Wish I knew that from the beginning.

And the angled matting was not planned either. It turned out my white with the images on it was crooked. Oh well I went with it. I figured it I twisted it more it would look like I did it on purpose. With adhering the whole square at an angle on the base it makes it looked planned. Yeah, right. Funny isn't it? How it finally all turns out?! Now you know. Hee hee.

Thank you for visiting.

This is my card for today's Featured Stamper Challenge: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=442737Congratulations Sumptoy, I had a hard time choosing only one piece of inspiration from your wonderful gallery.

I chose her card box as inspiration for my card: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1163220

I chose to make some Thank you cards for July 4th using COLONIAL CARVINGS from Clear Dollar Stamps: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront I will be using this set to make a few of these cards to send to my Marine son and his roommates stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA.

Changes:

I made a card instead of a box

made mine square

used eyelets

stamped on entire base

Used hemp in place of ribbon

RAK from Heike (Nessie)

I am very bad at not uploading this sooner. I received it last month, sorry Heike it has taken me so long. Anyway, this cool trifold card and cute bear die cuts are RAK from Heike aka (Nessie) on SCS.

I saw this card of Heike's: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1343685?si=Nessie and commented that I loved her bear. Soon after I received this awesome RAK in the mail. Isn't that the sweetest? Bears of my very own to play with. And all the way from Scotland.

Thank you Heike. I have not used them yet but will soon.

Thank you for visiting.

Nugget Purses

I make little favors for the sweet senior sisters at church that get together each month for a luncheon. So, this month I made these cute nugget purses. I know they were popular a couple years ago. I learned how to make them from a picture my stampin up demonstrator showed me. I just tweaked it to my liking.

What I did: The purse is made from a strip of CS 5"x 1 3/4" long scored at 1, 2 1/2 and 3 1/2. This makes the tent with the flap over the front. I think its pretty self explainatory, the front, i cut 1/2" down from fold to center on each side to form a point. I adhered a piece of black CS 1 3/4" x 1 1/8" under the flap and cut a mat using edging scissors.

I hole punched 1/8" hole 1/4" from each side centered on fold at top of purse for the straps to go through. I did not glue the ribbon, I knotted each end twice on the inside after threading it through the holes. I prefer 1/8" ribbon, it looks more like a real purse strap to me. This ribbon here is just the 50 cents a roll of 10 yds satin stuff. Then I folded the purse close and punched a 1/16" hole centered at the point for the brad. Easy right? Then just use a small piece of double sided tape to hold the nugget in place, centered inside the purse bottom down. I say small piece of tape because it just needs to keep it from moving, but allows easy removal so recipient can keep the shell of the purse for reuse or sample. Or they will just rip your hard work apart to get at that chocolate!!!!

I love these NEW DOUBLE CHOCOLATE Hershey Nuggets. They are half milk and half dark chocolate. And the wrapper is one solid piece. No sleeve to move around. Have fun.

Thank you for visiting.

Ways To Use It Challenge #222

This is my card for today's Ways To Use It Challenge: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=442222 When you click on this link you will have the opportunity to click on the tutorial for Crinkled Flowers Check it out!!!

Thanks for the fun challenge Cindy.

My BG is embossed but you can't really tell in the picture.

For my flowers I used the CB and scallop punch for my shapes. After crinkling I cut from outside to inner in between scallops to get the flower shape. First I stamped my butterfly, cut him out, minus the attenae, and colored him and fold parts for dimension. Well I thought I would stamp the butterfly partially on the circle so when I put the butterfly on it you could see the attenae. Well, I ended up liking the partial butterfly just as it was. Then I wondered how I would put a sentiment on it and I put it in between the flowers and the butterfly. I love the distressed edges of the circle and the itty bitty background stamped on it.

These flowers really are fun. You need to try them from the tutorial. I still want to try them as the tutorial intended.

Thank you for visiting.

I paper pieced this cute elephant and placed him up on the nursery shelf. I was going for a vintage look so I sponged everything with Distress Ink. This was also my first attempt at coloring with pencils and using Odorless Mineral Spirits. I need practice. There always has to be a first right?!

Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday #50

Farm animals in a barn having a tea party while Cindy babysits her quarantined Chicken with the Chicken Pox. What? Follow me to Mothermark's Teapot Tuesday Tea Party: http://mothermark.blogspot.com/search/label/Teapot%20Tuesday%20Cards Yes, I am posting it on Wednesday because my son had a band concert last night. You can participate all week. Cindy is coming up on one year of tea parties.

Yep, its true, I am finally reduced to coming in the back door. Well....I just had to bring a pig. See, Cindy said if anyone brought a pig you'd have to come in the back door and get checked for swine flu. Well, I am happy to report my party pig is A OK. Of course!

My son's best friend is turning 16 and this card works great for a teen boy.

This was also my card for Tuesday's Color Combo Challenge on Splitcoaststampers: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=441795. The challenge was to make a White one layer card. So, I needed a card for my son's best friend's 16th birthday. I used fonts for this card: DB Farm Animals (for the pig), CK Huckleberry (smaller words), LD Vanilla (Pig Out) all from Scrapnfonts.com:http://www.scrapnfonts.com/

How did I do it? I worked in Microsoft Publisher with text boxes. I made my first text box the size of the card front at the bottom of a blank landscape publication. I work at the bottom so there is room to fold it to make my card. Then I opened another text box and used 300 font for the pig and turned him at an angle off the side. I knotted the ribbon for a more masculine look and wrapped it around back and through the eyelet. I then used a cotton ball and blue chalk to make the sky background, rubbing the blue in certain areas.

Clean And Simple Challenge #18

A Color Challenge using pinks/coral and kraft plus one other color of your choice is today's CAS Clean And Simple Challenge at Splitcoaststampers: http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=441556

I knew this was going to be a BIG challenge because the only KRAFT I currently have is little pieces. Uh oh. So I knew I had to use small pieces of Kraft. So, eventually I went with these 1" squares that I used a corner punch on.

I stamped 5 of them with a VersaMark pad and sprinkled Clear Embossing Powder then used my heat tool. It gave a glossy and darker look. So it gives some diversity to the Kraft, having two different shades.

Now what to do with it, how about buttons? So I rummaged through my collection pulling all my pink ones and sewed them on with DMC floss.

For the ribbon, which is totally scrumptious and is from Clear Dollar Stamps: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFront I made two loops and crossed them over and pulled each end through makin a bow and pulled the ends around to the back of the card. Cool huh? I saw someone do it recently on SCS and gave it a try ( I did have to play with the bow a bit to get it looking close to perfect).

Thank you for visiting.

I printed off a freebie Wednesday digistamp by Dustin Pike found here: http://dustinpike.blogspot.com/ Dustin has an amazing blog of his cartoon style drawing that always makes me laugh and smile. I just love that. Every Wednesday on Dustin's blog he has a free digistamp download. Check it out. He also has an etsy store with other amazing digistamps. Be sure to head on over there.

I am working on my coloring. I used my Bic Mark-it markers. I am working on shading etc. Learn as I go...... I do love the Distress Stickles Walnut Stain I used on that sand castle. I know now it looks like a mud castle, but it gave this one layer card dimension.

Thanks for visiting.

Sketch Challenge #231

I will be using this sketch more than once I think from today's Sketch Challenge on Splitcoaststampers; http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=440666

I used a new release PEONY designed by Kim Teasdale from Clear Dollar Stamps: http://www.newcleardollarstamps.com/servlet/StoreFrontI decided to try something different with this set and use it as an outline stamp without coloring it in. This sketch worked perfectly for what I had in mind. Although it did not quite turn out like what was in my head, I'll have to experiment some more. I definitely like using this flower as an outline only. Great option.

Thank you for visiting.

I chose thisVertical Rugby Striped Beach Towel:http://www.landsend.com/pp/VerticalR...149_0000000644

I used the SU word window punch to cut out my colors and aligned them the way I wanted and cut off the extra. I was inspired to use the word window punch by this card by Tammy Fite (TKfite):http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/photo/1266636

I made this card for my oldest son in the Marines. I tried coloring the fish and did not like it as well. I like this Clean and Simple card and fits as a masculine card.

I had an enjoyable time. Thank you Angela, Katie, Laurie, Shawne , Sarah, Cassie, Dawn, Codi Jo, Pat, Grace, Linsey, Christi, Kris, Carol, Cathy, Skylar and Peggy for Visting/Playing this weekend. I really enjoyed seeing what you talented ladies came up with on this one.

So, the tradition is that the hostess chooses ONE card/project from all the wonderful creations to post on her blog. UGH. Sooooooooo hard to choose just one. Yeah well, I did it though. I chose Skylar's card. Skylar is Shawne's 13 year old daughter who played in her place. You did an awesome job on this card Sky. I am honored to post your card on my blog. Please play again. As you admire this card, please keep in mind the creator is 13!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!
